06 Oct Opening of Mongolia’s second wind farm in Tsogttsetsii soum
After 4 years since the successful opening of Mongolia’s first wind farm “Salkhit”, Newcom is proud to announce that Mongolia’s second wind farm “Tsetsii” has opened on October 6th of 2017. The completion of the project is a testament to successful co-operation of Newcom and SB Energy, subsidiary of Japanese conglomerate Softbank Group Corp.
Tsetsii Wind Farm project started the construction of the Tsetsii Wind Farm in September 2016 and after 4 years since the successful opening of Mongolia’s first wind farm “Salkhit”, Newcom is proud to announce that Mongolia’s second wind farm “Tsetsii” has opened on October 6th of 2017. The completion of the project is a testament to successful co-operation of Newcom and SB Energy, subsidiary of Japanese conglomerate Softbank Group Corp.
Tsetsii Wind Farm project started the construction of the Tsetsii Wind Farm in September 2016 and after one year, 3 months ahead of construction schedule, a major milestone for the Tsetsii Wind Farm has been reached with the completion of site works including the installation of the 25 wind turbines and the construction of Tsetsii Substation along with 32km overhead transmission line connecting to the Central Grid of Mongolia. This significant achievement followed on the project reaching over 900,000 man-hours without lost time incident in September this year. Approximately 500 people worked on the construction of the project with 95% of them being Mongolian.
Being one of the world’s most sparsely populated countries with very harsh winters, Mongolia faces considerable challenges to provide sufficient heat and electricity for its people, especially in rural areas. However, Mongolia has been identified as having the potential to be a major wind power producer and it is estimated to have more than 1,100 GW of installed generating capacity (source: Ministry of Energy, Mongolia, 2016), distributed largely in the southern and eastern regions.

The 50MW Tsetsii Wind Farm in Mongolia is financed by the JICA and EBRD. It was JICA’s first overseas investment and loan project in renewable energy sector and private sector.
Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas was selected as the wind turbine supplier and as EPC contractor for the project. Amongst many subcontractors of the project, Newcom’s subsidiary Newcom Mining Service LLC was selected as balance of plant and civil work contractor by Vestas and has successfully completed the wind farm’s road works, construction of O&M facilities, the foundations of wind turbines and the project’s camp management.
The Tsetsii Wind Farm will help contribute to sustainable economic development by reducing the amount of imported electricity and mitigate against climate change. Specifically, as a result of the project, it is estimated that approximately 230,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions will be displaced and 180,000 tons of coal and 1.2 million tons of water will be saved. Located in southern Mongolia, the Tsetsii Wind Farm will contribute further benefits in facilitating infrastructure development for railway, road and electrical infrastructure at local and national levels.

NMS LLC has successfully completed the foundation anderection of 25 Wind Turbine Generators (WTG) at the Sainshand Wind Park. This milestone has been reached after more than 670 000 man hours without any lost time accident. These works have required professional engineering and construction skills on top of rigorous planning to complete such activities during the project.
In October 2017, NMS LLC started the construction works with the plan to start energy production towards the end of October, 2018. The project is located in Altanshiree and Urgun soum’s territory of the Dornogobi province
The implementation of the wind park with installed capacity of 55 MW will result in a supply of sustainable electricity to almost 100 000 households and will save an estimated more than 200,000 tons of carbon emissions annually one year, 3 months ahead of construction schedule, a major milestone for the Tsetsii Wind Farm has been reached with the completion of site works including the installation of the 25 wind turbines and the construction of Tsetsii Substation along with 32km overhead transmission line connecting to the Central Grid of Mongolia.
